How to Import an EDB File into Ansys HFSS
Hello everyone, this is Adel from Ozen Engineering, Inc. In this video, I'll show you how to import an EDB file into HFSS. Follow the steps below to successfully import and set up your file.
Steps to Import an EDB File
- Go to File > Import EDB.
- Select the EDB file you want to import and click Open.
- The EDB file will open in HFSS 3D layout.
Setting Up a Solution
- Right-click on Analysis and select Add HFSS Solution Setup.
- Click OK to confirm the setup.
Exporting the HFSS Model
- Right-click on Setup One and go to Export.
- Select HFSS Model.
- Rename the file if necessary and save it.
- To open the HFSS file, go to File > Open and select the file.
Additional Notes
- HFSS 3D layout uses the settings from the solution setup, exporting what it sees as the mesh.
- For example, the VIA might have only six sites. To adjust this:
- Go back to HFSS 3D layout.
- Double-click on Setup One.
- Select the Advanced tab.
- Change the number of sites as needed and click OK.
- Export the file again to HFSS, if adjustments were made.

Hello everyone, I'm Adel from OSA Engineering, and in this video, I'll show you how to import an EDB file into Ansys HFSS. Let's begin by going to File > Import > EDB. Select the EDB file you want to import and click Open. The EDB file opens in Ansys HFSS 3D layout.
To proceed, add an HFSS Solution Setup. Right-click on Analysis, select Add HFSS Solution Setup, then click OK, OK. Now, right-click on Setup One, go to Export, and select HFSS Model. Rename the file and save it. To open the HFSS model, go to File > Open, select the HFSS file, and open it.
Note that Ansys HFSS 3D layout uses the settings from the solution setup when exporting. For example, the VIA has only six sites. To adjust this, go back to Ansys HFSS 3D layout, double-click on Setup One, select the Advanced tab, and change the number of sites as needed. Click OK.
