Ansys Motor Solutions Toolchain: Design, Model, Analyze, Optimize
Hello everyone, David Gilio here with Ozen Engineering, Inc. In this video, I discuss the ANSYS Motor Solutions toolchain, which is used to design, model, analyze, and optimize motor designs.
Key Tools and Features
- ArmExpert: A motor design tool that utilizes industry-based templates for material and standard motor selection, including axial flux motors. It provides:
- Analytical electromagnetic results
- Automatic generation of torque-speed curves and other important motor design curves for analysis
- Maxwell: After selecting designs with Motor Design and ArmExpert, Maxwell can be used to develop 2D or 3D FEA models. It includes:
- Pre-established model settings for boundary conditions, excitations, symmetry, and analysis setup
- Advanced analysis of electromagnetic or multi-physics involved with the motor
- Modification of standard geometries to non-standard innovative geometries
- Development of torque-speed curves and efficiency maps to evaluate motor performance
- Simplorer TwinBuilder: Used for motor control analysis, employing reduced-order modeling to extract energy.
- MotorCAD: Utilizes a virtual lab for design of experiments, developing torque-speed curves and efficiency maps from simple or complex duty cycles.
Additional Information
ArmExpert can only provide electromagnetic results from an analytical model of a motor design and requires Maxwell to develop torque-speed curves and efficiency maps.

Hello everyone, David Giglio here with Ozen Engineering. In this video, I discuss the Ansys Motor Solutions toolchain for designing, modeling, analyzing, and optimizing motor designs.
Arm Expert is a motor design tool that uses industry-based templates for material and standard motor selection, including axial flux motors.
It can quickly and easily provide analytical electromagnetic results and automatically produce torque-speed curves and other important motor design curves for analysis.
After selecting a design with Motor Design and Arm Expert, it can be used to quickly and easily develop 2D or 3D FEA models in Maxwell, with all model settings established for boundary conditions, excitations, symmetry, and analysis setup.
You can then run the Maxwell simulation and post-process results. The Maxwell model can be used for advanced analysis of the electromagnetic or multi-physics involved with the motor. Standard geometries created in Maxwell via Arm Expert can be modified to non-standard, innovative geometries.
Maxwell can be used to model any type of motor and can develop torque-speed curves and efficiency maps to evaluate motor performance. Simplorer's TwinBuilder can be used for motor control analysis and uses reduced-order modeling to extract energy.
The Maxwell model can be used to create a motor-based simulation model without much difference in final results, saving time.
Unlike motor design models, Simplorer and Maxwell can be used for monophonic differences, which can result in faster enthusiasm for users who choose to de-inflate groups and optimize protein activity.
Results from analytical models or from 2D FEA models and for single physics or multi-physics, including electromagnetic, thermal, and NVH, can be used.
MotorCAD uses a virtual lab for design of experiments of the motor, using results to develop torque-speed curves and efficiency maps from simple or complex duty cycles.
