Connecting to Your ANSYS License Server
Hi, this is MingYao from Ozen Engineering, Inc. In this video, I'll show you how to install your ANSYS software and connect it to your existing ANSYS license server. If you're trying to set up your license server, please refer to the previous video I created on that subject.
Downloading ANSYS Software
Let's assume you have downloaded the correct software from ANSYS. You can download the software from support.ansys.com. Under "Download Current Releases," we offer a wide range of tools. I will focus on a few main ones: structures, fluids, and electronics.
Installation Process
- Download the structures and fluid package.
- Run through the installation process.
- During installation, you will be prompted to install the license server.
- Locate the setup file and run it.
- Proceed through the installation steps.
- Near the end, you will be required to enter your license server information. In my case, my license server is my machine here.
Configuring the License Server
After installation, you should be prompted to configure the license server:
- Select all the products you want to install.
- Configure interfaces as needed.
- Enter the license server name. For example, it could be something like "Desktop AE76RDB".
Once the license server name is set up, the licensing file should already be installed on your system, so no further action is required. If your license server wasn't set up or you initially used "localhost" and wish to switch to a different server, follow these steps:
Using the ANSYS Client License Settings App
- Find the "Ansys Fluent License Settings" app.
- Run it as an administrator.
- Enter the server name into the system.
- Click "Test" to ensure you receive a check mark.
- Click on "FlexNet Publish Licenses" to view all available licenses.
For Electronics Enterprise Users
If you're running Electronics Enterprise, the ANSYS licensing client is not installed by default. Instead, you need to:
- Navigate to the ANSYS installation directory.
- Go to
Ansys EM > Shared Files > Licensing
. - Edit the
as LMD.ini
file. - Enter the server name and port used to communicate with the license server.
Conclusion
These are a couple of easy ways to connect your ANSYS installation—whether it's CFD, mechanical, or electrical magnetics—to your license server. Hopefully, this was a quick overview of how to connect your software to your license server. If you have any questions, please contact your designated ANSYS support organization.

Hi, this is MingYao from OZEN Engineering, and in this video, I'll show you how to install your ANSYS software and connect it to your existing ANSYS license server. If you're trying to set up your license server, please go to the previous video I created on the subject.
So, let's say you have downloaded the correct software from ANSYS. You download the software from support.ansys.com. Under "Download Current Releases," we have a wide range of tools. I'm going to focus on a few of the main ones, the structures and the fluids, as well as electronics.
Downloading the structures and fluid package, running through the installation process, you'll be prompted to install the license server. So, let's see if I can find an example. Here are all the different tools I have. And if I open up this ISO of ANSYS here and install it.
Let's go find it again here. I should use this one. This should have the setup. So, you find the setup, you run the setup, and you go through the process. At the end, at some point near the end, you should be required to put in your license server information.
In my case, my license server is my machine here. So, this is still running. Okay.
Now, after this window is installed and tested, I should have the "Die scaredTY." Well, why is this help button to rise allowing me to click on the Ansys, select all the products you want to install, and then go through the next. We have optical now. Next, there's an option to configure interfaces.
All of that, go through this, and at the end, it should ask me to put in a license server name. In my case, it'll be this computer "desktop AE76RDB." When it comes to that point, I will go ahead and install it.
In fact, when I install it, it says, "Okay, everything is set up properly, and the license server name is set up." So, I'm going to go ahead and install it. The licensing file that's installed is already on the system, so we don't need to do anything.
It's going to go through this process of installing the software. I'm going to cancel out of this. So, if you go through the installation process with the license server already set up, you shouldn't need to do anything.
It should prompt you during the process, but if your license server wasn't set up, or you put in "localhost" and you want to switch to a different license server, you want to find this "Ansys Fluent License Settings" app. In fact, you need to run this as an administrator. So, let's try that again.
It's called the "Ansys Fluent License Settings" app. So, let's run this. So, we're going to run this as an administrator. This pulls this up. All you need to do is put the server name into the system. Hit "Test" to make sure that you get a checkmark.
You can click on "Flex Net Publish Licenses" and it shows you all the licenses you have. That's all you need to do to connect your computer to the Ansys license server. This is true for mechanical and CFD. If you're running electronics enterprise, you don't have this Ansys licensing client.
It is not installed by default. In which case, you need to go to the Ansys installation directory, "Ansys EM," "shared files," "licensing," and you need to edit this "LMD.ini" file.
And you just put in the server with the port that's used to communicate with the license server, as well as the server name, and you're ready to go once again.
So, a couple of really easy ways to connect your Ansys installation, CFD, mechanical, electrical magnetics to the license server that you have installed already. Hopefully, this was a really quick five-minute overview of how to connect your software to your license server.
