Crash Course: SIwave RLGC Solver
In this session, we will discuss how to derive the RLGC equivalent circuit for certain structures within a PCB.
Steps to Derive RLGC Equivalent Circuit
- If you already have a PI solution or an S-parameter solution with two ports:
- Click on Compute Subcircuit.
- Select RLGC Subcircuit.
- Use Auto Assign Sync and Source terminals to convert them from ports into Sync and Source.
- Select the two terminals and the frequency for the calculation.
- Compute the matrix to obtain values for resistance, inductance, conductance, and capacitance.
These values represent the summation of the power plane and the ground. If you wish to calculate only the inductance of the power plane without including the ground, follow these steps:
Calculating Inductance of Power Plane Only
- Use the second solver: Compute RLGC CPA and Minor.
- Go to the VRM and assign it as Sync.
- Set the CPU as Source.
- Ensure no other nets are selected unless you want to solve for another one. Set them to float.
- Click Apply and then OK to validate the setup.
- Launch the calculation.

Crash course: SIwave RLGC solver. Today we will be talking about deriving the RLGC equivalent circuit of certain structures inside our PCB.
Now, if you already have a PI solution, an S-parameter solution with two ports, you can click here, go and select Compute Subcircuit, RLGC Subcircuit, and you can do Auto Assign Sync and Source terminals, Sync and Source, because you have to convert them from ports into Sync and Source.
Select the two, select the frequency where you want to do the calculation, and Compute the Matrix. Now, you get a number for the resistance, a number for the inductance, and for the conductance, and for the capacitance.
So, these values are for the power plane plus the ground, so the summation of the two. Sometimes you want to calculate only the inductance of the power plane without including the ground in it.
To do that, we use our second solver, which is Compute RLGC CPA and minor, so we'll go to the VRM and I will assign it to be Sync, and the CPU we want it to be Source, and for the rest of the nets, I want to make sure I don't have anything unless you want to solve for another one, float, Apply, click OK, the setup is valid.
Now we can launch. Of course, before that, make sure to please contact us at https://ozeninc.com/contact for more information.
