ANSYS Shared Web Licensing Setup
Hi everyone, this is MingYao from Ozen Engineering, Inc. In this video, I'll be discussing how we set up the new ANSYS shared web licensing. The benefit of this setup is that you can now configure ANSYS without the need to maintain a license server. Shared web licensing is available exclusively for ANSYS tools and is applicable only for leased licenses.
Setup Process
- Navigate to licensing.ansys.com.
- Log in to your company account, in this case, Ozen Engineering.
- On the left-hand side, you will see a selection of different types of licenses, including:
- Standard leased professional licenses
- Elastic licensing
- Manage activations and entitlements
- Web assignments
- Check your entitlements once your ANSYS order has been processed. You will see all your licenses on this page.
- Ensure the person holding the license is a certified licensed holder.
- As an administrator, go to the ANSYS licensing portal access. You will have the permission to add other users.
- Go to id.ansys.com to manage user groups and assign roles.
- Add users by email and assign roles such as administrator or member.
- Optionally, import users using an Excel or CSV file.
- Create groups to assign specific licenses to specific users or keep groups empty to allow access to all licenses.
User Setup
- As a user, go to the ANSYS installation and access the ANSYS license settings.
- Run the setup as an administrator on your local computer to make necessary changes to the installation files.
- Select the license type: either the standard FlexNet web server or the shared web license.
- Enable the shared web license. You will be prompted to enter your email and password for the first time.
- Once activated, you can prioritize different licenses according to your preference.
Simulation Check
To check out a simulation:
- Start a workbench or mechanical product.
- Ensure the shared web licensing is prioritized.
- Verify the license usage in the licensing settings panel.
- If issues arise, use the "check in all" option to clear any remnants of checked-out licenses.

Shared web licensing is only available for ANSYS tools and it's only available for leased licenses. To set it up, go to licensing.ansys.com. Select your company, OZ Engineering, and on the left-hand side, you'll see a selection of different types of licenses.
Check your entitlements once you purchase ANSYS and the order has been processed. You will see all the licenses you have on this page. The person that has the license has to be a certified licensed license holder. You can also go to the license support coordinator rights.
As an administrator of these licenses, you can go in and see the license. Go to groups and click on manage groups in ANSYS ID. Add users from your company. Each user is identified by an email as well as a role, such as administrator or member.
Once you are a member, you can now go ahead and use, start pulling from these entitlements. You'll notice that there is an option to create groups.
If you want to assign specific licenses to specific groups, go into the ID portal and start creating additional groups and then assigning specific numbers of licenses to each group. This gives you more granularity in terms of how you control who has access to which license.
The second part is setting up as a user. Go to the SS installation and go into the SS license settings. Make sure you run this as an administrator because it does require some changes to the installation files. Select the shared web license and enable it.
The access to the shared web license is dependent on your email address and the password. Check out a simulation. Go to Workbench or Mechanical and start a product. Shared web licensing is first, and you can see it is using Mechanical Enterprise license - shared web.
Check the licensing settings panel to see the number of tasks available. To summarize, go to licensing.ansys.com and add the right people to your ANSYS account. Users at your company can go in and open up license settings, enable shared web, and then they're good to go.
