How to Add a Port in SIwave
SIwave typically assumes that ports are located where discrete components exist, such as at the paths of discrete components or integrated circuits. It does not expect to see a port at the pads of capacitors, inductors, or resistors. However, if you want to add a port at a specific location, such as at a capacitor, for various reasons, you can do so by following these steps:
Steps to Add a Port
- Go to the port selection menu and choose Add Port.
- Select the two locations where you want to place the port. For example, you can select two random points.
- Once you select the two ends of your port, SIwave will automatically recognize all the nets that exist underneath each end.
- You have the option to connect the port between:
- These two surfaces
- This surface and the ground
- If you select the ground, SIwave will create a cut and opening, ensuring the port is not shorted to the net but directly connected to the ground.
- Press OK to finalize the port addition. You will then have a new name for this port and its impedance.
Manual Port Addition
If you prefer to add the port manually, navigate to the Ports section and proceed from there.

Title: "2mins SIwave: Add Ports" "To add a port in SIwave, note that it typically assumes ports are located at discrete components' paths. However, you can add a port anywhere, such as at a capacitor.
Here's how: 1. Select 'Port.' 2. Click 'Add Port.' 3. Choose between two points. 4. SIwave recognizes the nets under each point. 5. Choose to connect the ports or to ground. 6. If connected to ground, SIwave creates a cut to prevent shorting. 7. Name the port and set the impedance.
Manual option: 1. Go to 'Ports.' 2. Select 'Add Port.' 3. Choose the location and set the impedance. Thank you."
